ELL/MLL COORDINATOR/TEACHER - Sign-On Bonus and Extended Contract Available
The English Language Learning (ELL)/Multilingual Learning (MLL) Coordinator will be an influential voice and leader to develop and implement a supplemental program that promotes student achievement, accelerates inclusion into our school and community, offers a high level of individualized service, and implementation of Language Acquisition Plans.
Success in this role will be demonstrated by:
- Establishing nurturing and trusting stakeholder relationships.
- Implementing a K-12 focus on delivering student outcomes and satisfaction for ELL students in need of Language Acquisition Services.
- Developing collaborative relationships among staff members with students and their families.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works with the Guidance Counselor(s) to identify ELL/MLL students who are eligible for Language Acquisition Plans.
- Works within the framework of standards to plan and deliver ELL/MLL instruction for all students that qualify for services.
- Partners with students to establish, assess, monitor, and achieve learning goals.
- Helps students use a variety of technology strategies to support their learning and ensures students are proficient in navigating the systems.
- Reviews progress toward meeting benchmarks of next proficiency standard(s).
- Designs and administers ELL/MLL formative tests, which are aligned to curriculum.
- Administer twice-a-year summative tests to report growth in proficiency.
- Keep ongoing records for all ELL/MLL students.
- Develop a clear system of instructional interventions to share with school staff should students plateau in language acquisition.
- Creates appropriate learning environment that is stimulating, active, safe, respectful, etc.
- Involves students as a resource in planning, peer assistance, school operations and service.
- Collaborates with core curriculum instructors to develop modified outcomes, curriculum, or interventions.
- Instructs English Language Arts for ELL/MLL students and partners with core content teachers.
- Regularly checks a variety of sources for instructional ideas, support, and best practices.
- Delivers professional development to school staff when needed.
- Serves as an advocate for all students and liaises with school staff when needed.
- Collaborates on an ongoing basis with building principals, district leadership, and school staff.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- The ELL/MLL Coordinator will be an energetic leader with a love of working with students of all age levels from different cultures and with different learning styles.
- The ELL/MLL Coordinator will be organized and have excellent written and oral communication skills.
- The ELL/MLL Coordinator must be resilient and reliable while demonstrating an ability to build a strong home, school, and community relationships.
- It would be beneficial for the ELL/MLL Coordinator to have a working knowledge of one other language (preferably Spanish) due to the nature of the work.
- ELL/MLL Coordinator must have/obtain an ELL Endorsement (18 semester hours of coursework) from the SD DOE—Elementary English as a New Language Endorsement and/or Secondary English as a New Language Endorsement. For specific details regarding the endorsement contact dustin.degen@k12.sd.us.
