Job Performance and Responsibilities

 

Hours per week - 45

*6:00 am to 3:30 pm Monday through Friday

Hourly Wage - based on experience/time + half for overtime

Building Principals and Superintendent

 

WORKS IN CONCERT WITH:

District Custodians

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Able to operate all District equipment - Skid Steer, Mowers, Edger, Ranger, Gator, Floor Scrubber, Square D, Extractor, C3 Machine, Lift, etc.

· Plans and oversees all maintenance and repair work, maintaining a high standard of safety, cleanliness and efficiency.

· Coordinates cleaning efforts with custodial crews to ensure that regular cleaning occurs via industry standards and recommendations.

· Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, playground areas, and outdoor courts neat and clean at all times.

· Regulates heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of natural gas, water, and electricity.

· Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.

· Cleans commons areas or classrooms.

· Sweeps or vacuums classrooms daily and dusts furniture.

· Cleans corridors, commons, and gym after school day, and during the day when their condition requires it.

· Scrubs, hoses down, and disinfects toilet floors daily, and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains.

· Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year, and more frequently as necessary.

· Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation, including stripping and waxing of floors each summer.

· Makes such minor building repairs as he/she is capable of and calls on the Director of Maintenance when needed.

· Reports major repairs needed promptly to the Principal or Superintendent.

· Maintains a regular schedule of all motors and other mechanical equipment requiring scheduled servicing.

· Reports immediately to the Principal or Superintendent any damage to school property.

· Remains on the school premises during school hours, and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance is required by the Principal, or Superintendent.

· Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.

· Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand, and requisitions such needed replacements in advance so that they may be delivered in such times as will not hinder the custodian in his or her duties.

· Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair of school buildings and equipment.

· Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the Principal or Superintendent.

· Complies with local and state laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.

· Conducts periods of inspections on electrical and plumbing installations in the schools to ensure their safe condition.

· Helps in the food service department as requested by the Business Manager who oversees the District food service.

· Helps with the transporting of mail and other items as may be necessary in the operation of the school system.

· Cooperates with Community Education officials an d others using or renting school facilities.

· Helps with set-up and take-down of extra-curricular activity equipment (athletics; fine arts - concerts, plays, musicals, talent show; senior awards program, baccalaureate, and graduation, etc.).

· Provides assistance to the night activities custodial when needed and requested (e.g., football stadium trash)

· Participates in in-service training programs as requested.

· Enforces school policies pertaining to job responsibilities.

· Strives to promote safety, health and comfort of all students and employees.

· Performs other duties as assigned by the administration.
